Everyone liked this so much, I decided to do it again.
Here is mine from Lord Beaumont’s Bride after my heroine Lady Serena tells her cousin she wants a love match:
Phoebe put her pen down. “I should warn you, the heart is an independent organ. It is very difficult to tell it whom to love and whom not to. We must hope yours chooses wisely.”
I distinctly remember that line from LBB. And I LOVE IT! It’s so beautiful, philosophical yet phrased properly British. I love, love love love it! I can’t wait to see LBB on the shelves.
Lauren, thank you. I can’t wait either.
So I have to share a favorite line from my book then…
Charles flashed a grin at Lucien. “I do believe that is the first positive piece about us in the society pages. Wait until my mother reads it. She’ll be looking out the nearest window for signs of the four horsemen.”
Very nice. I love it.
The heroine in one of my manuscripts always gets the best lines. This frustrates the hero, an impoverished rake. He knows her coachman likes to spring the horses and so refuses to sit opposite her in the carriage. He might be thrown forward, his face in her lap.
“I suspect mine wouldn’t be the first you’ve had your face in,” Diana answers.
LOL. Great line.
“You have stolen not one, but several items that belong to me. You wounded one of my men. And…” He stepped in close to her, close enough that her breath fell on his face. “You tried to kill me. I don’t believe you are in a position to argue.”
“Maim you.”
“What?”
The tips of her lips curved up into an impish grin. “I tried to maim you.”
What a devil of a woman. Cloaked in beauty, she was wicked. Wicked and deceptive and, oh so close to finding herself naked beneath him. He groaned inwardly. He wanted her, despite the urge to strangle her.
From A KISS IN THE WIND.
Jenn!
Jenn, What a wonderful post.
I love these!! Great job, everyone! Here is mine from my rs DON’T LET IT SHOW.
He sampled the salt from her tears, the berry lip gloss she wore, and a desire she couldn’t control.
Best thing he’d ever tasted.
Tess, that’s great!!
wow, good!
D’Ann, Thank you.
This is a bit long, but here’s short exchange from “Just a Kiss.”
“If I feign interest in you, it will surely attract more suitors for you, whereas your natural infatuation with me should help deter some of my less desirable pursuers.”
Charlotte bit her lip to prevent him from seeing her amusement at his suggestion. “So I am to ward off your admirers, whilst your exalted attentions are to attract more suitors for me?”
“Just so,” he said lightly.
“So you attract people, whereas I repel them? My lord, you mustn’t flatter me so or my ego will grow too great.”
Ally, That’s wonderful. Great job.
Hi Ella…I love that line…beautiful!
Hi Christine, Thank you.
Great lines all
Nikki
Nikki, thank you.
Great lines, all! Enjoyed reading them! Great idea, Ella! Gotta remember to add mine next time 🙂
Thanks Jennifer.
Here’s mine from my manuscript, The French Way. My English hero and French heroine are having breakfast after their first tryst, and are arguing about porridge. The underlying conversation is about Sophie adapting to her new English home.
“Sophie, stop. This is not about porridge.”
But it is, my lord. You love porridge and I hate it. Porridge will always be a part of your life. Here, in London, you’ll always have porridge in your house. I want croissants and chocolate. You hate croissants and chocolate. A Frenchman would understand.”
Carole, that’s great.
Great line–and so true, lol.
Brenda, thank you.
I love this, Ella. Heres a few of my favorite lines from A Wife By Christmas:
“Shh! I said, stop looking up my skirts.”
“I’m not looking up your skirts.”
“Yes, you are. I’m hanging here in my skirts, and you’re looking up at me.”
“I have to look up if I’m going to catch you.”
“Close your eyes.”
“Don’t be ridiculous. If I close my eyes, I’ll miss catching you.”
LOL. Wonderful.
What a great line. Now that’s called writing!! Here’s a favorite line of mine, from the movie Young Frankenstein: “My, what big knockers!”
Sheri, very funny.
Great lines.
Maggie, thank you. Maybe next time you’ll leave one.
I love the movie Dangerous Beauty and I have many favorite lines. This is one part/scene I love:
Veronica Franco: [she’s pealing a banana] The Latin for banana is arienna. Banana tree is pala. [she swallows the banana whole, as the wives look on shocked]
Veronica Franco: A woman’s greatest, and most hard-won asset… is an education.
Giulia De Lezze: Just because you can say it in Latin doesn’t make it any less obscene.
Veronica Franco: Just because you took a vow doesn’t mean you know how to love.
Ouch!
Woohoo. That’s great!
A former coworker and I used to quote lines from Lord of the Rings. I think my favorite is where Smeagol is watching Sam cook rabbits. And Smeago yells at Sam “You ruins it!” Then when Sam explains about fish and chips, Smeagol tells him gives it to us raw and wriggling you keep nasty old chips (he spits as he says that line) I love those lines. When someone does something to food I don’t like I go oh no you ruins it.
Cathy, That’s funny.
