What are you favorite lines? There are really famous lines from movies such as Gone With The Wind’s Rhet Butler’s, “Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn.” And Casablanca’s “Play it again Sam.” Pick your favorite from anywhere.
Here’s mine from The Temptation of Lady Serena, which will be released in autumn.
In this scene Robert is trying to convince Serena to marry him.
Robert glanced from his brandy to her. “Remind me to tell you of the betting on who would finally win your hand. It wasn’t me.”
“It may still not be you, if you don’t get on with it.”
LOL! Fun line, Ella! I cannot wait to read it!
Mine’s from As Long As You’re Mine: Samantha and Rafael are being forced to marry after an “indiscretion.” They are at the dinner table and he’s just chastised her for drinking too much.
Leaning close to him with a wide smile, she whispered, “Go to hell, Mr. Beauregard.”
“I’m likely already there, my lady.”
Jenna, lovely. Thanks for stopping by.
HAHA, That has to be absolutely hands down one of your better lines! Here’s a favorite line from my current WIP, a paranormal christmas novella about a woman in love with two irish vampires.
Connor demanded her attention, cupping her cheek and turning her to face him.
“Kiss me,” he purred deep in the back of his throat just seconds before he stoke her lips with deep mind-numbing kiss. It was the sort of kiss that stole a woman’s heart and soul and she had no way to resist. Like a first kiss and a last kiss and every kiss in between, it had a certain magic that could hold a woman frozen in time, bound by a mix of love and passion.
Very nice, Lauren. Thank you.
My favorite line is from Mr Darcy in Pride and Predjustice ,
“She is tolerable, but not handsome enough to tempt me.”
Haha, and the joke was on him! Thanks for coming by and sharing, Deirdre.
Some of my favorite lines form movies or TV would be:
“Book him Danno.” Steve McGarrett from Hawaii 5-0
“Can open. Worms everywhere!” Chandler from Friends
“We were on a break!” Ross from Friends
“How YOU doin?” Joey from Friends
“My best friends’ sister’s boyfriend’s brother’s girlfriend heard from this guy who going with this girl who knows this kid who say Ferris passed out at 41 flavors last night. Guess it’s pretty serious.” Simone from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
As you can guess, I am a huge movie and series buff. I remember lines of movies and shows from years ago with no trouble and I love requoting them when the situation calls.
For a favorite line of a book? Now that is more difficult for me. I have so many through the years that I’ve loved, but can’t recall them after closing the book. I wish I could remember them as there were some GREAT ones I read in 2012. If I think of one, I’ll post it.
Great idea Ella! Nice post!
Renee, thank you. Those are some wonderful lines.
This is from a new ms called Cowboy, Come Home.
It’s between Adam and Eden who are estranged, but have had sex the night before…
Adam waited before the redhead moved off before he turned toward her. “You want to tell me what that was all about?”
She shrugged. “Just saving you from a cougar on the prowl.”
“Maybe I didn’t want to be saved.”
Her mouth fell open and she snapped it shut. “Oh, please. You’ve never been attracted to older women. Especially ones like that.”
“Like what?”
“Do I have to spell it out for you?” Eden frowned at him. “You know…looking for a quickie with a hot, young guy.”
“Like you were last night, maybe? Cause I don’t remember you sticking around for breakfast.”
That’s cold. Wonderful line. Thanks D’Ann.
The writer should get the credit for the lines in movies, ie: I’ll be back. Alas… I’m having a ton o’ fun reading the favorite lines here! Great idea, Ella.
Thank you, Sheri. Good line.
It just so happens, I’m editing my Victorian romance, “The Spanish Outlaw”. Think of Antonio Banderas (in his younger years), and that’s my hero! 🙂 Anyway, this part in my book is one I like a LOT. Keep in mind while reading this, that I do write SWEET romances. lol
“What are you doing?” Her voice rose.
“I am proving to you that sex is not the only reason I like you.”
“And how are you going to do that?”
“I am going to make love to you.”
Great job, Marie. Thanks for sharing.
Fun post, Ella! I’ll have to think and come back!
I’ll be waiting, Nancy.
Great post, Ella. My favourite movie line is from my favourite movie of all time:
“Of all the gin joints, in all the towns, in all the world, she walks into mine.” – Rick in Casablanca
Hi Carol, that is a wonderful line. Thanks for sharing.
Oh My God this is a great line!!! I also have to think on one! : ) Your line is a tough one to follow!
Thanks, Christi. You’ll come up with one.
No-one puts Baby in a corner LOL Not my fave but certainly the only one coming into my head right now after reading all the above!
Even if it’s not your facorite, that’s a good one, Cait. Thanks for posting.
LOL. Great line, Ella. There are tons of great lines from the Princess Bride. One of my favorites is “Death cannot stop true love. All it can do is delay it for a while.”
Love the Princess Bride and the line. Thanks for coming by, Ally.
Ha, loved Serena’s response. 🙂 I’ll have to think of one and come back later to add it. Enjoyed reading all the others though. Great idea, Ella.
Thanks, Melissa. I’ll be here all day. I can’t wait to read yours.
Hi Ella,
Loved the line from “The Temptation of Lady Serena”…her response is priceless. I adore a heroine with wit and a spine to go with it.
One of my all-time favorite lines come from, believe it or not, “The Mummy”. This line resonates with me…it could have something to do with the fact that I’m a trained librarian:
Evelyn: “I may not be an explorer, or an adventurer, or a treasure-seeker, or a gunfighter, Mr. O’Connell, but I am proud of what I am.”
Rick: “And what is that?”
Evelyn: “I… am a librarian.”
Love it…it’s my motto!
Tara, I love it. Thanks so much for posting.
Love your line, Ella!! 🙂 And the line from Gone With the Wind is one of my faves!
Hi Karen, thank you, and thanks for stopping by.
Good one, Ella. Humor is great when it’s surprising.
Thank you so much, Carole.
LOL, Ella! You write the sauciest heroines! They really know how to put a rake in his place!
Here is one of my favorite bits from Wicked In His Arms. Our hero, Dylan, has just tackled Eve, our heroine, to the floor at the top of a staircase while her uncle blasts away at the ceiling with a brand new Manton fowling piece. Why is he shooting at the ceiling? It’s a long story!
“In case you haven’t noticed, Miss Tildenbury, there is a madman down there with a gun. A very large gun. I’m trying to keep you from getting shot.”
“That madman is my uncle.”
“The fact he is a relative of yours is of no surprise to me, I assure you.”
“Uncle P would never shoot me.”
The gun chose that inopportune moment to go off again. Smoke and feathers filled the air above them. Once the cloud of detritus cleared Eve looked to where a magnificent stuffed barn owl had only moments ago soared above the foyer. Nothing remained save a charred spot on the wall and a few feathers.
“Tell that to the owl.”
Louisa, I love your humor. That was great!
Love it! What a colorful scene!
My personal favorite line came from a Tanya Huff book – “Blood Debt”, I think. “You know you’re having a strange day when you’re looking forward to the arrival of the blood sucking undead.” (One of the main characters is a vampire who writes romance novels)
Amy, that’s a good one. Thanks for sharing.
Love these posts! And the comments, too.
My current WIP features a hero folks like to call the Apollo of London.
He says to the unimpressed heroine, a girl from good hunt country in Leicestershire: “Am I special, Miss Burke?”
Daphne didn’t like this teasing, even if it was done with closed eyes from a sickbed. “You seem rather convinced of that fact already, my lord.”
Great line, Angelyn.
Here’s mine from my brand-spanking-new release TREACHEROUS TEMPTATIONS!
He laughed, a harsh sound, all sign of humor leaving his eyes. “Don’t let any of it fool you, my dear, for even the most tarnished silver can acquire a fine and gleaming polish. And believe me, there is far more tarnish here than an innocent and unschooled eye such as yours can discern.”
“Why would you speak so of yourself?” Mary protested.
He reached for a red-gold curl that had escaped her lace cap and coiled it around his finger. “I would forewarn you, Miss Edwardes that I am a man, and men in general are not to be trusted…” He held her gaze as he slowly released the ringlet, allowing his fingers to skim her cheek. “…especially not by pretty young virgins.”

Hi Victoria. Very nice. Thanks for stopping by.
Lord of the Rings, Gollum/Smeagol tells Sam “give it to us raw and wriggling, you keep nasty chips” and of course the one at the end where Sam tells Frodo, “Don’t you let go, don’t you let go. Reach!”
Those are classic. Thanks, CK.
