Spotlight and Q&A with Shana Galen
August 30, 2013 by ellaquinnauthor
Please help me welcome bestselling Regency Author Shana Galen. While I’m spotlighting her latest book, True Spies, Shana is going to answer your questions. She’ll also be giving away a copy of her book to one lucky commenter says they want the book in their comment.
Now to the cover. I think this is really lovely. What do you think?

Now accolades and the blurb:
Praise for Shana Galen:
“GALEN STRIKES THE PERFECT BALANCE BETWEEN DANGEROUS INTRIGUE AND SEXY ROMANCE.” –Booklist
HE’S GETTING TIRED OF DECEPTION…
Winslow, Baron Keating is honor-bound to finish one last mission as an elite spy for the Barbican group even though he just wants to go home and be with his family. But after years of secrecy and absence, his daughters hardly know him and his wife has given up on him.
SHE WANTS TO TRY A LITTLE INTRIGUE . . .
Elinor, Lady Keating has had enough of domestic boredom. She contemplates an affair with a rakish spy, only to discover a world of intrigue and treachery that she never knew existed. Even more shocking, her neglectful
husband is suddenly very attentive – quite the jealous type – and apparently there is much more to him than she ever knew . . .
EXCERPT
He was standing across the room, shirtless, hair tousled, and he turned as she opened the door. The first thing she noted was the fatigue in his eyes. He’d always had the most beautiful, clear green eyes. He’d once given her a pair of emerald ear bobs, and she thought if he had been a woman, they would suit him better, for they matched his eyes perfectly.
The second thing she noticed was it had been quite some time since she had seen him without clothing. His chest was bronzed and hard. He had broad shoulders, powerful arms, and a flat stomach. When he’d turned to look at her, the muscles in his abdomen had bunched and rippled in a way that left her all but breathless. And she still hadn’t caught her breath, because she noted he had lost a little weight. His trousers were loose at the waist and hanging at his hips, where a line of dark hair trailed temptingly downward.
She had the mad notion to put her tongue on that trail and follow it down with long, wet strokes. She shook her head. Where had that idea come from? Elinor forced her gaze back to her husband’s face. He had a day’s worth of stubble and what appeared to be the beginning of a bruise on one cheek, and for some reason, it made him look rather rough and dangerous. That and the length of his wavy hair. How long had it been since he’d had it trimmed? She had never seen it this long. For a moment, she wished he were some dangerous stranger who would cross the room, take her in his arms, and kiss her until she forgot to breathe.
Now a little about Shana:
Shana Galen is the bestselling author of fast-paced adventurous Regency historicals, including the RT Reviewers’ Choice The Making of a Gentleman. Her books are published all over the world and have been featured in the Rhapsody and Doubleday Book Clubs. She taught English at the middle and high school level off and on for eleven years. Most of those years were spent working in Houston’s inner city. Now she writes full time. She’s happily married and has a daughter who is most definitely a romance heroine in the making. Shana loves to hear from readers: visit her website or see what she’s up to daily on Facebook and Twitter.

What inspires your stories Shana and did you have any history with espionage /spying before your books? Wonderful reads 🙂
Hey, Melanie, great question! This series is inspired by my favorite spy movies–well, the ones that would make decent romance novels. I’m also inspired by real historical figures and events. Nope. I haven’t ever been a spy or known a spy or anything. I just think spies are sexy.
Love the description of her appraising her husband!
Thanks, Lisa. My agent loved it too. I think that’s what sold her on the book.
Thanks so much for having me, Ella!
My pleasure, Shana!!
I loved the movie True lies and I can’t wait to read the book which seems quite similar 🙂 I loved Shana Galen’s previous spy novel so much!
Thank you so much, Minesha. It was really cool at the RT conference a few years ago in L.A. because we stayed at the hotel where they filmed some of True Lies.
Oh goodness. This is going to be a great book! The blurb, the teaser, the cover, you just can’t go wrong, Shana. Congratulations!
Thanks, Jennifer! It was a fun book to write.
I really enjoy Shana Galen’s stories. They are always a delight to read. I am looking forward to this one. It’s sounds like a lot of fun! 🙂
Thank you, RRG! I hope it’s a really fun book to read. It was fun to write. Winn and Ellie are exciting and passionate, and I loved revisiting Adrian and Sophia from LORD AND LADY SPY.
Confession time. I haven’t read any of your books yet, Shana. But you certainly know how pick the right excerpt (had to fumble in my reticule for the smelling salts) because I’d buy the book based on that alone!
Oh, Carol, it only gets better! Just FYI, the first book in the series is only 99 cents right now. So if you have an ereader, you could try LORD AND LADY SPY for cheap! Thanks for stopping by. 🙂
Thank you, Shana! I’ve just bought it!
Thank YOU, Carol!!
Very nice! I’m intrigued! 🙂
Thank you, and thanks for stopping by!
Hi Shana! You may know that I’m already a fan but not lately 😦 …see I read the excerpt and the thought of a cheating spouse turns me totally off from this series. Then, the cheating spouse probably gets all she wanted from her “rake/hubby” and he is devoted to her….I don’t like the sound of that, lol…what else could you tell me about this book/series (w/out giving up too much) that would inspire me to try the book but besides that you wrote it! 😉 Waiting for your reply! Thank you!
Hey, Stacy! Of course I remember you. I will say that if you’ve read any of my books you know I’m not going to write about any cheating spouses. Elinor contemplates an affair, but nothing really happens. This book is all about finding love again and the rekindling the passion in marriage. Did you read LORD AND LADY SPY? Similar theme–estranged spouses who find love again. I promise: no cheating.
Hi Shana! Stopping by to say and to wish you best of luck with True Spies! I loved WInn and Ellie’s story and their adventures!!!
Thank you, Sue! Just sent you a package in the mail, too.
Hi, Shana. I would love to add this book to my collection. Excellent post.
Thank you so much, Kathy!
Hi Shana! I love your books; Lord & Lady Spy is my fav. I’d love a copy of True Spies.
Thanks, Linda. LORD AND LADY SPY is one of my favorites too.
Oooh… I love Lord and Lady Spy… Can’t wait to read this one!
Thank you, maybe31!
I love Elinor as a heroine and I think it’s great you’ve written a romance with an already married couple. This book was a wonderful read!
Thank you, Nancy. It means a lot to me that you would say that. And thank you for telling others–that’s very nice of you.
Wonderful excerpt. I’m hooked. Added to my TBR list which is deliciously long,.
Oh, my TBR is super long too. But I am never without a good book!

I love the premise of this book! I like romances about estranged couples who find love again. Thanks for the chance to win!
Thanks for stopping by, Jennifer.
I noted Shana you state you are happily married. It got me to pondering if people ever state the opposite, such as “I’m married to a jerk who has tried to kill me three times.” I think if they did, we might question their ability to write romance. Which led me yet another pondering. Are writers who don’t declare a happy marriage actually unhappy and thus unqualified to write romance? I’ll stop with the ponderings, they are going to get me into trouble.
I’m glad you are happy in marriage. Me not so much…what with him trying to kill me and worse than that: he was very grumpy.
Now getting on topic: Your excerpt is a fabulous example of showing very telling. Well done!
Lisa, sounds like you need to write a book! All marriages have their ups and downs. Murder might be going too far. I was a romance writer before I met my husband and I know lots of authors who are divorced, so I don’t think marital status or happiness has anything to do with it. I will say this. When you’re in a fight with your husband, it’s a little tougher to write a happy romantic scene.
GIMME THAT BOOK, Shana! There I said it, so now I’m qualified. =^..^=
Y
The excerpt was awesome — hence my interest in receiving your work of fiction.
Thanks, Elf 🙂
Oh. My! I definitely want to get my hands on this hero. I mean this book. Yes, that’s it. The book. Ahem! Great excerpt !!
LOL! Thanks, Louisa.
This sounds great! Loved Lord and Lady Spy.
Thanks, Sandra. Adrian and Sophia drop in on this one too. Couldn’t leave readers hanging.
😀 Hi Shana!
Hi, Ki! It’s not a party if you don’t come 🙂
I love the cover of True Spies, but I don’t think anything could ever top Lord and Lady Spy, that one is so awesome. Just finished reading The Spy Wore Blue, so I’m all ready to read this newest story. I’d sure love to win a copy. 😀
Good luck, Barbara! I have to agree. It’s hard when you have a great cover because you do wonder how they’ll ever top it. So glad you enjoyed TSWB.
Oooh, Shana, that description of her husband gave me goose flesh. Very exciting. I can’t wait to see where Elinor puts her tongue.
I’d love to read your new book.
Thanks.
Thank you, Suzi! 🙂
