Title Contest

It’s time to put your thinking caps on.

My editor and I cannot agree on a title for book #5 in my series, The Marriage Game, so I decided to have a contest to chose the title. My original plan was to hold it on Facebook, but quite frankly, I get lost on all the posts, so I’m going to have here where I know I’ll see all the entries. The contest will run until Saturday, November 16th. The winner will receive a signed copy of the book, acknowledgement in the book for coming up with the winning title, lunch with me at either the Romantic Times convention in New Orleans, or RWA Nationals, or a basket of Caribbean spices.

The title must have the heroine’s name in it in some form. Book #4 is entitled Desiring Lady Caro.

Here is a blurb so you know what the story is about.

William, Viscount Wivenly, is determined to escape marriage minded ladies before his luck runs out, and he’s trapped. When asked to investigate the problems surrounding his deceased great-uncle’s family, William jumps at the chance to assist. Yet after arriving in the West Indies, his attention is drawn to a sultry, young French widow. Now all he can think about his making her his mistress.

Life has not been easy for Miss Eugénie Villaret de Joyeuse since her step-father, Nathan Wivenly, died. She’s had to continue their work freeing slaves, hold her family together, and discover why the business is mysteriously losing money. She doesn’t have time for a spoiled Englishman whose kisses ignite her passion.

When Will learns his widow is in fact an innocent and his father’s ward, he immediately proposes marriage, on his terms. Yet Eugénie has something else in store for the arrogant viscount. If he wants her hand in marriage, he’ll have to work for it.

So far I like Enticing Eugenie. It’s parallel with your other titles and most importantly short. I’m also a fan of alliteration for titles since it helps folks remember. But you could go in the opposite direction and use Evading Eugenie (although I don’t like it as much, since it doesn’t really convey the story concept well).

You know, I like Enticing Eugenie too! I thought I could come up with something myself, but knowing that the root of the word “entice” comes from the Old French, meaning to set on fire, well, it means I really like it!

My vote is for Enticing Eugenie!

All I can think of is “Seducing Miss Eugenie”, “The Seduction of Eugenie”, Desiring Miss Eugenie” or “The Slow Seduction of Eugenie”, or “Chasing Miss Eugenie”

Since Eugenie is a widow, I don’t think she can be a ‘miss’ but if there’s a reason why she can, then change the Lady to Miss.

The blurb implies it is Eugénie who sets precedence for the viscount to win her hand, thus “Eugénie’s Wager” strengthens the lead theme. 😉 Good luck, Ella, whatever the tittle… 😉

–Emancipating Eugénie [could be construed both that she is liberating others *and* being liberated from her guardian in the civil law sense]
–The Enthrallment of Eugénie [also has a slavery connotation]
–The Entanglement of Eugénie [could add “English,” e.g. Mademoiselle Eugénie’s English Entanglement]
–Enamouring Eugénie [using British spelling as nod to English viscount]

Though I find the assonance kind of fun, “Mademoiselle/Miss/Lady” etc. could be inserted in the appropriate spot if desired.

Wow, I’m here to the party a little late but I really like the words Enchanting, Enticing and Bewitching then end with Miss Eugenie. It sounds like he’s going to need all these and more to actually get her!
