It is always my great pleasure to welcome, NYT bestselling author, Grace Burrowes to the blog!! Grace is here to tell us about her latest book, The Captive, and give away one copy. All you have to do is say your want it!!
I finished it last night and was not at all surprised that it is on the USA Today Bestseller list!!
Here is the fabulous cover!!
Now the blurb.
And if you still are on the fence about this book, an exclusive blurb.
Gillian, Lady Greendale, and Christian, Duke of Mercia, are discussing—among other fraught topics—safety in the wake of an attempt to poison him.
“You’re safe, Gilly. The footmen or I attend you wherever you go, and the entire staff has been warned to watch for strangers.” Christian sounded very sure of Gilly’s safety, but what of his own?
“The staff has been been…protective,” Gilly said. “Discreet, but protective.”
“You’re surprised?”
Yes, she was. Also relieved—and ashamed. “I left my slippers in your bedroom that first night.”
“So?”
The great lout was genuinely perplexed. “Below stairs, they know.”
“That we share a bed? If you say so.”
“I don’t like that they know.” She hated that they knew, hated that they might think her guilty of every weak, wanton behavior Greendale had accused her of.
Christian’s gaze narrowed, more closely approximating the ducal sphinx Gilly had barged in on weeks ago in London. “Will you pretend you don’t like what we do?”
She would have moved out from under his hands, but he only let her turn, and wrapped his arms around her from behind. “The question is sincere, my lady. I would not for the world impose on you.”
The wretch, saying such things out loud.
“I like what we do.”
“Then is it me? Perhaps you’d rather disport with a different partner?”
Behind the arrogance of the question, Gilly heard a hint, a well-hidden, ducally disregarded hint of vulnerability. She turned in his arms and pressed her face against his chest. She had licked, kissed, and nuzzled her way over most of this chest, and had found it delicious.
“I will never disport thus with another. I promise myself every morning I will not disport thus with you again, at least not until matters are settled between us.”
His hold on her loosened. “I do not understand your dilemma. I have determined you need time to sort it out yourself, and this sits ill with me, but as a measure of my regard for you, I do not force the matter.”
“Oh, no, you do not force the argument, you merely—”
“Yes?” He slipped his hands down and cupped her bottom, which meant she took notice of his male flesh growing hard between them.
“Even arguing arouses you.”
“Everything about you arouses me.”

I really like the cover 🙂 I would love to have a copy as I enjoy Grace’s books.
Thanks
Lori, I LOVE that cover, and its one of few for which I have the art without any lettering on it. I need to find a poster printer, and get it framed as my Christmas present to me.
Welcome Grace!!! And wow, I feel like there’s to be so much angst!!! Can’t wait!
Ki pha, I also think there’s a lot of connection, and those two things pulling against each other, the old, “I want you but…” keeps the pages turning.
Morning Grace and Ella! Congratulations on hitting the USA bestseller list, Grace! As always, I loved the excerpt!
I’m curious, do The Captive and The Traitor (as well as The Laird) overlap time wise like the Lonely Lords and some of the Windham novels? I love how those novels are all interconnected. Of course it makes me want to read them all at the same time. I don’t think I can wait until September to read them all – guess I’ll just have to re-read. 😀
Glenda, you’re the first one to ask me that, and the answer is… The Captive takes place in Spring of 1814, followed by The Traitor, and by summer of 1814, The Laird. The Windham series picked up in 1817, in theory, when St. Just is two years back from Waterloo and still not settled very well. In terms of Lonelys, only Gareth’s tale has taken place.
Thank you, Grace! I’ll admit I read the Lonely Lords almost completely out of order, but still enjoyed them immensely!
I love her books! I would love to read this one too.
Thanks, Missy Terry!
Grace is a favorite of mine. When I wrote reviews for long and Short Reviews, I reviewed several of her books. ALL of them have characters that seem to live and breathe. i’d love to read this one.
Joneva, thanks for those kind sentiments. When I can hear a character’s voice in my head, growling, purring, whatever it is they do, then I know I can get the story out of them. The ones who simply brood at me from the depths of my imagination are QUITE bothersome.
Ooh…I like! Wonderful excerpt, Grace.
Thanks. Gilly likes, Christian likes… takes about another 100 pages for them to happily ever after.
Grace, I’m still reading my way through your Lonely Lords series but I would love a copy The Captive.
Carol, The Captives are a little different in tone than most of the Lonelys. Probably Ethan’s book comes closest to resonating with them, because he was emotionally and physically traumatized in youth. I do love that guy, though, and these heroes have the same admirable streak.
I’d love to win a copy of The Captive!!
Best of luck, Amy A!
Loved the excerpt! And I’d love to win a copy of The Captive because I haven’t yet read a Grace Burrowes romance!
Jenna, if you don’t win, then I’d suggest starting with this one. This trilogy is in my opinion, my best work to date. I love ’em all, but I got some kinda lucky with this trilogy.
I’d love to win!!
Then best of luck!
Absolutely LOVE the cover and would love to win. Grace is one of my favorite authors! 😍
Thanks, Sharon. And I might as well mention here, that we’re already doing a Goodreads giveaway for next month’s title, The Traitor. Never hurts to enter…
I love Grace Burrowes books and am so looking forward to this new series, so YES, I would love a copy of “The Captive”
Alisa, I hope you enjoy all three books. They’re darker than my usual tone, but also sweeter. Most be my dark chocolate jones showing.
I want it! I need it! The cover is awesome.
You must tell Jon Paul how you feel about the cover the next time he’s posting on FB. I certain have!
Beautiful cover. My book from Grace is still The Soldier. I love that whole series. From The Heir to the last book. Good luck on your success.
Yes I want a copy please
Your buddy St. Just shows up in this one, and he also has a cameo or two in Hadrian’s book. Soldiers move around with more alacrity than most of us… Valentine’s jealous.
Reblogged this on sweetcelvia's Blog.
Thank you!
I am going to start reading the captive later today. Just need to finish the book I’m reading now.
I know that feeling. Mary Balogh’s The Escape reproached me from the night table until I got a biography of Robert Burns dispatched.
Such a beautiful cover! Congratulations on making the USA Today Bestseller List Grace, a much deserved honor!
I would love to have a copy of this in my hot little hands! 🙂
Arizona, making lists probably shouldn’t matter as much as it does. The lists really only tell us who sold well in a single week. Many authors will outsell me over thirty days, and not make the list because their performance was steady, not a spike and a plummet. That said, I was ecstatic to get that call from my editor.
Love the cover!
Great minds, D’Ann…
I want it! I love Grace’s books and highly recommend them.
Thanks, Venus. It remains true that the best way to grow a readership is word of mouth recommendations. The best.
I love Grace’s books & would love a copy of this one to add to my collection.
Thanks, Linda. I hope you add a LOT of my books to your collection!
I absolutely LOVED this book! I think it is one of your very best yet, Grace, which is saying a great deal!
19th, I will be curious to know what you think of The Traitor, which I think is a better read yet…
I always loves grace’s books since I read her Wyndham family novels . It is one of the historical romance series that I love to re read time and again. As a matter of fact I just re read her lady Louisa’s Christmas wish once again. So, it is no wonder if I would love to read this latest book of Hers and would love to put in on my top shelves alongside her Wyndham novels 🙂
I’m a loyal fan of Grace and have most of her previous works. Have not bought this one yet – a freebie would be wonderful.
Mary I wish you luck. I’ll be giving a few more copies away on my blog too, so maybe see you there?
Great blurb and excerpt. Gorgeous cover. Shared via Linkedin.
Thanks, Andrea… I like that excerpt too. It captures (there’s that word) the dynamic between Gilly and Christian. Love, but…
Thank you, Andrea!
Looks great
Captures the ambiguity of the premise, if you ask me. Are those two captives of one another, or captivated?
Am looking forward to reading this new addition to my Grace Burrowes Library!
Bonnie has a LIBRARY of my titles! Do know how much authors like to hear that kinda talk?
I want it! Looking forward to reading it!
We love that kinda talk too, Gretchen (but you might want to check the casablanca author’s blog from yesterday, too).
What a gorgeous cover! And the excerpt is amazing, as usual!
The entire trilogy is graced with Jon Paul covers, and I do not know what good fairy made that decision, but I owe her my summer’s joy. I look at that image and I want to open the book and start reading.
Beautiful cover. I would love to have this book!
Beautiful cover. I would love read this book!
Thank you, thank you. Best of luck with the give away!
I love, love Grace’s books! Would love to win!
Hiya, Mary John! Good luck, and hope to see you on my blog. I have a FEW more copies sitting on top of the fridge…
So glad to ‘meet’ you here, Grace. No need to enter my name–I already have The Captive. Now to find time to actually read it! Love all your books.
Barbara, if you wait another three weeks, you can read The Captive and The Traitor at the same time. Call it the vacation plan…
Even if I didn’t love your books as much as I do, or that blurb (oh, my!) that cover is just amazing!!! I so want it =D ❤
I wish I had a grand ball to attend to and a beautiful gown like that to wear. Kudos on the design for the cover Grace!!
I didn’t know this until recently: Jon Paul designs the dresses for his models and has them custom sewn by a costume seamstress who specializes in historical shoot-wear. I’m dying to know what he does with the dresses when the shoot’s over.
I got to watch the interviews. So much work! Truly a piece of art to embellish another piece of art 🙂
Given how much interest there is in The Captive’s cover, some of you might enjoy this two part You Tube interview with Jon Paul: Part I: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RM5TmuWhjk Part II: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItxTbLBrvKw
I think part of the interest is because I did post the youtube interviews!
I’ve loved all the excerpts I’ve read, and the cover is gorgeous. I would love to win the book.
It took me forever to get to the bottom of this. I began hours ago. My finger is sprained from rolling the mouse for so long. But I persevered, because it is Grace Burrows. I think Jon Paul forgot to design the clothes for the guy. He seems underdressed for a ball by any standards. 🙂
I have read this on my Kindle, but of course I would love a hard copy for the bookshelves. For those who haven’t read it yet (what’s wrong with you people?!?), I have to say that this is Grace’s best book yet – deep, moving and beautifully written.
Beautiful cover! Congrats on the bestseller list!
The cover is absolutely gorgeous. The models are beautiful. The dress is lovely. His chest is magnificent. Both have wonderfully high cheekbones.( So happy they did not cut off the heads for the cover. I really hate that.) And best of all it is another fantastic Grace Burrowes book!
Love the cover, the book description & the blurb! I am a fan of Grace & also of Jon Paul!
Congratulations on the new release, Grace! I’d love a print copy of The Captive, please. The cover is beautiful! Thank you for the excerpt and the chance to win.
I just love the cover for this book, it looks and sounds like such an amazing read. Love Grace’s books! Would love to win it too!!
I would love to win The Captive, it’s gorgeous looking! Thanks for teasing us with the blurb! 😉
I just got The Captive in the mail yesterday. Cannot wait to read it.
The cover is awesome. Best of luck with sales, Grace!
